What should one do when the Universe is conspiring against you?

That’s what twelve-year-old Uma Kapoor would like to know, thank you very much. Her friends are getting ahead of her, her crush thinks she’s embarrassing and her own body is betraying her. Meanwhile, her Type A mom, who could once re-organize the spice cabinet while juggling several clients, is now a walking disaster.

And her dad?

He’s become a shadow, trying to keep the peace. Then, the house catches fire. Well played, Universe.
As her private fears collide with public disaster, Uma must navigate the big, bad (and slightly sooty) world of adolescence. With her snack-fiend BFF Arjun and her astronomy-obsessed brother at her side, she begins to learn that growing up might mean there are no neat answers—only brave questions.
