KHUSHWANT SINGH

Khushwant Singh was a renowned author, journalist and columnist. He was the founding editor of the newspaper, Yojna and editor at Illustrated Weekly of India, National Herald and Hindustan Times. In addition to the bestselling Train to Pakistan and Company of Women, he wrote over 80 books, including his novel, The Sunset Club at the age of 95. His autobiography, Truth, Love and a Little Malice won great acclaim. He wrote A History of the Sikhs, a celebrated account of the history of the Sikhs. He also served as MP from 1980-86. In 1974, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan, but after the 1984 central government-ordered military operation at the Golden Temple in Amritsar, which he strongly condemned, he returned his award. He was then awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 2007.
