Gopaldas Neeraj was a Hindi author, teacher, a frequent participant at many a poetry readings and songwriter for Hindi cinema. He was born on 4 January 1925, in the united province of Avadh and Agra in British India, now known as Uttar Pradesh, to Babu Brajkishore Saxena, in Purawali village near Maheva, Itwah. He was the first person to have been awarded both the Padma Shree and Padma Bhushan by the government of India.
