Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam (1931-2015) was President of India and one of India's most distinguished scientists. He was responsible for the development of India's first satellite launch vehicle, the SLV-3, development and operationalization of strategic missiles and their weaponization, and for building indigenous capability in critical technologies. As chairman of the Technology Information, Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC), he guided a number of technology projects and missions to take India into the twenty-first century. The document on Technology Vision 2020 is a blueprint to make India a developed country. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam held various positions in ISRO and DRDO and became principal scientific adviser to the Government of India holding the rank of a cabinet minister. He has the unique honour of receiving honorary doctorates from thirty universities and the country's three highest civilian honours: Padma Bhushan (1981), Padma Vibhushan (1990) and Bharat Ratna (1997). He had a short stint as professor of technology and societal transformation at Anna University, Chennai, and met over 100,000 high school students throughout the country.

Sanjeev Sanyal

Sanjeev Sanyal is the principal economic adviser to the Government of India and an internationally acclaimed economist and urban theorist. He lives in New Delhi and writes on a wide array of topics, ranging from economics to history. A Rhodes Scholar and an Eisenhower Fellow, Sanjeev spent two decades working in international financial markets and was named Young Global Leader in 2010 by the World Economic Forum. He is the author of the bestselling books The Ocean of Churn: How the Indian Ocean Shaped Human History (2016), Land of the Seven Rivers: A Brief History of India's Geography (2012) and The Indian Renaissance: India's Rise After a Thousand Years of Decline (2008), published by Penguin. This book is an adaptation of the second.

Sowmya Rajendran has written several books for children, from picture books for toddlers to young adult fiction. She won the Sahitya Akademi's Bal Sahitya Puraskar in 2015 for her children's novel Mayil Will Not Be Quiet, co-authored with Niveditha Subramaniam. Sowmya works as a journalist for a news publication and writes on gender, culture and cinema. She lives in Pune.

Roshen Dalal

Roshen Dalal was born in Mussoorie, and lived in various places in India, including Hyderabad, Mumbai and Delhi, before settling in Dehradun, where she now resides along with several rescued cats and a dog. She has an MA and a PhD in ancient Indian history from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. She has taught both at school and university level and has been involved in research in the fields of history, religion, philosophy and education.
She is the author of the bestselling two-volume Puffin History of India; The Puffin History of the World, also in two volumes; The Religions of India: A Concise Guide to Nine Major Faiths; Hinduism: An Alphabetical Guide; The Vedas: An Introduction to Hinduism's Sacred Texts; The
Compact Timeline History of the World and India at 70: Snapshots since Independence. Apart from books, she has written numerous articles and book reviews. Having been an editor for many years, she is now a full-time writer and is currently working on a book on the Upanishads.
