Damodar Mall (Author)
Damodar Mall, a lifelong retailer, started as an FMCG marketer at Unilever. He set up his first store under the Apna Bazaar co-operative’s brand in Mumbai. That start-up was the genesis of DMart. Damodar is part of the leadership at India’s largest retailer, Reliance Retail, and helped shape Smart Bazaar, JioMmart and FreshPpik from scratch.
Known for his insights about consumer and market behaviour in India, Damodar is generous about sharing his knowledge. SupermarketWala was his first book about the Indian shopper. Be a SupermarketWala, his second book, guides small retailers to set up supermarkets. The book has been translated into four languages.
When he is not shaping omnichannel retail ideas, Damodar helps young brands and entrepreneurs succeed. He likes to play music on his keyboard, a passion he picked up from his sons Harsh and Yash. Damodar lives in Mumbai with his IIM batchmate and wife Sangeeta, a novelist and podcaster.
Harsh Mall (Author)
Harsh Mall is a marketing and customer insights leader who has spent over a decade helping brands, retailers and government agencies evolve to keep pace with consumer behaviour and technology. He went through The Doon School and Syracuse University, took an MBA from NYU Stern and cut his teeth on market research at Ipsos, New York. Today he is in the ‘running the shop’ business at Walmart Canada, where his work and passion overlap with his father’s, only separated by a generation and a few continents. Digital SupermarketWala is his first book and the natural product of that generational and geographic overlap.
Harsh is a trained musician and former co-host of the Subdrift NYC open mic. He enjoys travelling and the outdoors, a joy he shares with his wife, Sakshi, a tech and business consultant. They live in Toronto, Canada, with their daughter, Jiya.
