Maria Denjongpa is a teacher, writer and paper-mâché artist. She studied anthropology at Brown University, where she met her Sikkimese husband, Sonam. Together, with their two sons and a group of friends, they founded Taktse International School in 2006. For the next thirteen years she taught English from kindergarten to Class XII.
At night in Sikkim, she liked listening to miraculous stories about it raining milk or the flying meditation master who spends the night in a Garuda’s nest. These days she enjoys reading aloud—to herself, her husband and their grandchildren. Always with a hot, milky cup of tea.
