Lakshmi Subramanian is professor of history at the Centre for Studies in Social Sciences, Kolkata. She has a PhD from Visva-Bharati (Santiniketan) and has previously taught at Jamia Milia Islamia, New Delhi, the University of Calcutta and Visva-Bharati.
