Ram Prasad Bismil

Ram Prasad ‘Bismil’ (1897-1927) was a Hindi writer, poet and revolutionary who committed his life to the freedom struggle. He participated in the Kakori train robbery, to amass funds for his revolutionary movement against the British, for which he was arrested and executed. His landmark autobiography was written during his time in jail, just before he was hanged, on 19 December 1927.

Awadhesh Tripathi

Awadhesh Tripathi is a translator and literary critic based in Bhopal. He has translated several books into Hindi, including Ganesh Devy’s After Amnesia, Gyanesh Kudasya’s India in the 1950s and Richard Eaton’s India in the Persianate Age. His monograph Kavita Ka Loktantra is a study of post-Independence Hindi poetry and its critique of the newly established Indian democracy. He teaches at Azim Premji University, Bhopal.

Franz Kafka

Franz Kafka (1883-1924) was born of Jewish parents in Prague. Several of his story collections were published in his lifetime and his novels, The Trial, The Castle and Amerika, were published posthumously by his editor Max Brod.

Trained in management at the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad and holding a PhD in Urban Studies from Université Grenoble Alpes, (France) she blends academic research with storytelling to illuminate complex social and economic changes for a wider audience. She is also the author of Urban Villager: Life in an Indian Satellite Town (SAGE, 2013) and Tough Customer (Westland, 2014) and has written extensively for Indian dailies.

David C. Engerman

David C. Engerman is a scholar of twentieth-century international history and the Leitner International Interdisciplinary Professor of History and Global Affairs at Yale University. In addition to writing two books on the place of Russia and the USSR in American intellectual and political life, he writes widely on the topic of international development assistance, starting with a co-edited volume, Staging Growth: Modernization, Development and the Global Cold War (University of Massachusetts Press, 2003), and most recently a monograph, The Price of Aid: The Economic Cold War in India. This research was also the topic of his presidential address for the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations in 2016. He is currently working on a one-volume history of international development, tentatively entitled International Development: A History in Eight Crises.

Arun Krishnan

Dr Arun Krishnan has studied and lived in different cities across India, USA, Singapore and Japan, before putting down roots in Bangalore. He started off with a degree in Engineering and a doctorate, before going on to work in IT, High-performance computing, Bioinformatics, computational biology and HR analytics. He is a polyglot and is conversant in Tamil, English, Hindi, Bengali, Japanese and Kannada. He is an amateur historian and enjoys visiting historical places. He has previously written The Battle of Vathapi trilogy.
