Satyajit Ray (1921–1992) was one of the greatest filmmakers of his time and received the Academy Award for Lifetime Achievement in 1992. In the same year, he was honored with the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award. A true polymath, Ray was not only a visionary director but also a brilliant writer, illustrator, designer and music composer. His literary works, spanning short stories, novellas, poems and articles in Bengali, continue to captivate readers of all ages. A creator of the beloved Feluda series, he is also known for his widely popular writings for children, many of which have been translated and enjoyed by readers beyond Bengali literature. Most of his books remain widely read and appreciated even today.
